Speech and Language Therapy
The inpatient and outpatient speech department at Genesis offer services tailored to meet the needs of patients needing rehabilitation for a variety of diagnoses, including stroke, brain tumor, neurological conditions, neuromuscular disease, head and neck surgery and any other condition that affects daily tasks.
The licensed speech-language pathologists work with orders from your physician to ensure the best possible care. Speech-language pathologists treat cognitive deficits in various areas, such as orientation, attention, memory, reasoning, problem-solving and/or safety awareness. Speech-language pathologists assess and treat swallowing disorders, speech and voice disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders.
Our speech-language pathologist work as an integral part of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) interprofessional team to address feeding, swallowing and neurodevelopment. SLP's offer education and support to families to help prepare them to transition home with their infant.
Conditions we treat
Speech therapy involves treating muscles and functions from the neck up, including swallowing, speech/language and memory. The speech-language pathologists at Genesis will evaluate and treat patients, developing a plan of care individualized to each patient’s needs, and implement a variety of techniques and exercises to improve and enhance functional skills.

Treatments and procedures
During your speech therapy sessions, our speech-language pathologists will use a variety of techniques based upon your therapy treatment plan. The type of exercises a patient need will depend on their diagnosis, physical limitations, cognitive status, and specific symptoms. Our speech and language therapy treatments include:
- Compensatory strategies to enhance functional skills and decrease symptoms

- Diet texture changes, when necessary, to increase safety
