Press Release

Demonstrates high-quality stroke care for patients

Genesis HealthCare System received the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll as well as Get With The Guidelines® Rural Stroke Bronze recognition for 2023. These awards recognize Genesis’ commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized and research-based guidelines that ultimately lead to more saved lives and reduced disability.

“Genesis is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” said Keela Barker, director of Rehabilitation & Ambulatory Services at Genesis HealthCare System. “Get With The Guidelines makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which studies show can help patients recover better. The end goal is to ensure more people can experience longer, healthier lives.”

The AHA’s Target: Type 2 Honor Roll award aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.

Hospitals receiving Get With The Guidelines® Bronze Achievement Award for rural hospitals are recognized for one quarter with at least one stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) recorded per quarter that achieved at least 75% overall Rural Stroke Composite Score compliance within the 10 individual rural acute stroke care measures.
