Endoscopic Procedures
Endoscopy is a way of looking inside your body using a flexible tube with a small camera on the end of it. At Genesis, we use endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat many GI disorders. An upper scope (EGD) can detect conditions such as Barrett's esophagus, and a colonoscopy can detect precancerous or cancerous colon polyps. The American Cancer Society now recommends that patients start colonoscopy screening at age 45. Genesis Endoscopy also offers Esophageal Manometry and Esophageal pH monitoring. Esophageal Manometry can detect swallowing problems, while Esophageal pH monitoring is the placement of a capsule inside the tube where you swallow to monitor the amount of acid in that area.
These procedures are done either at the outpatient surgery/endoscopy area at Genesis Hospital, the Genesis Surgery Center, or the Genesis Coshocton Medical Center depending on other health conditions you may have. Your physician will tell you where your procedure will be done.
Procedures offered include:
Colonoscopy (lower scope)
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (upper scope)
Esophageal Manometry
Esophageal pH monitoring study
Sigmoidoscopy
Percutaneous Gastrostomy Tube Placement
Endoscopic Retrograde Choloangio Pancreatography
Fecal Microbiota Transplant
Imaging Tests
Sometimes imaging tests can be used to diagnose gastrointestinal problems. Below is a list of imaging tests.
- Computed tomography (CT)
- Upper GI Series
- Lower GI Series (Barium Enema)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Oropharyngeal Motility (Swallowing)
- Study Ultrasound Virtual Colonoscopy
