What is Proxy Access?

Overview

Proxy access allows a person to access another person's MyChart account. Typically, parents will use this to access their child's account so they can schedule appointments, check immunizations, request medications, and coordinate other health-related information for their child. Adults may also use it to access an older parent or relative's record.

 

What Types of Proxy are There?

Limited Access:

  • See upcoming appointments
  • See billing information and make copays if the proxy is an account guarantor

Full Access:

  • See all appointments and after visit summaries
  • View test results and health issues
  • See billing information and make copays
  • Schedule appointments and complete online check-in

 

Who Can Be a Proxy?

For Children Age 0-12:

  • Parents or guardians of a child can have full access

For Children Age 13-17:

  • Parents or guardians of a child can have limited access

For Adults:

  • Trusted relatives of a patient with their own MyChart account can have full access
  • Legal representatives of a patient who is not able to make their own medical decisions due to developmental delays or other cognitive disabilities can have full access.

 

Who Cannot Be a Proxy?

  • Foster Parent to Child
  • Non-custodial parent (step-parent for example) to child
  • Adult to Adult Patient where the patient does not have their own MyChart account

 

How to Request Proxy Access for a Child Age 0-12 Years Old or Applicable Adult

A parent or guardian with a MyChart account who would like to gain access to their child's, or applicable adult's, medical information can:

  1. Log in to MyChart.
  2. Click on the menu button.
  3. Click "Request Proxy Access".
  4. Fill out the form with your child’s information.
  5. Click "Submit".
  6. Your request will be sent to our Genesis Health Information Management Department (HIM).
  7. Once your request has been processed, you will be contacted by someone in our HIM Department.
  8. If you are in the office, you will follow your provider’s process for access.

 

How to Grant Proxy Access for Individual Age 13 and Older

Patients with a MyChart account who would like to give someone access to their MyChart information can:

  1. Log in to MyChart.
  2. Click on the menu button.
  3. Click "Grant Proxy Access".
  4. Click on "Invite Someone".
  5. Fill out the form with your proxy's information.
  6. Click "Send Invite".
